The Samoyed is an ancient working breed that takes its name from the Samoyedic people of Siberia who valued these dogs so highly they would allow the dogs inside their tents. The alternative name for this breed in Europe is “Bjelkier”. As a herding dog, owners must take caution because these dogs will try to herd animals and people they think need it. The AKC recognized the Samoyed in the Working Group in 1906. Average size ranges from 19 to 23 inches tall at the withers.
