Description
The Brussels Griffon was named after the capital of Belgium, where it originated. It is believed the Affenpinscher, pug and English Toy Spaniel were all contributors in created this breed. The Brussels Griffon is said to have almost human expressions and a magnificent head piece. Old folk songs and stories mention a bearded dog which is a reference to this spunky breed. Their coat comes either rough or smooth and in many colors including red, belge (black and reddish brown), black and tan, or just black. They should be brushed twice weekly and will required trimming every 3 months. A Brussels Griffon was featured in the 1997 movie As Good as it Gets with Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. The AKC recognized the breed, in the Toy Group, in 1910 and they range in size from 8 to 10 pounds, and should not exceed 12 pounds.
