As their name implies the Portuguese Water Dog, or PWD, originated in Portugal. This breed has webbed paws and can work a full day on land or in the water with fisherman. Being a working dog, this breed required daily vigorous exercise. US Senator Ted Kennedy owned three PWD s and gave a puppy to President Obama and his family. The AKC recognized the PWD in the Working Group in 1983.
