Description
The Kerry Blue Terrier originated in Kerry Ireland. It is thought that the peasantry of Ireland developed the Kerry as an answer to the nobility using the Irish Wolfhounds to hunt with. This breed is born black, but by 18 months old should have faded to a slate or blue gray color in their wavy, hypoallergenic, soft, non-shedding coat, and they should be brushed and trimmed on a regular basis to keep them looking breed correct. This long legged breed require daily exercise and firm but patient training. Families with other pets should take note, having been established as a hunting dog, the Kerry may not accept cats or other small pets. The AKC recognized the Kerry Blue in the Terrier Group in 1922. Their ideal size is approximately 18 inches tall at the withers and 33 to 40 pounds.
