Description
The Japanese Chin has a long history. The Japanese have treasured them for centuries, not allowing them to be purchased, but only given as gifts between nobility. However, there seems to be many references of this breed in the Chinese history as well. This breeds sole purpose in life is as a companion dog to love and be loved. They are intelligent, alert and playful lap warmers and are devoted to their family. They have a long silky single layered coat which requires brushing a couple times a week to avoid matting. Because their coat has no odor, they do not require frequent bathing. Coloring is mostly white with patches of either black or red. The AKC recognized this breed in the Toy Group in 1888. The size of this companion dog ranges from 8 to 11 inches tall at the withers and the breed description does not list a weight requirement.
