The AKC recognized the Shiba Inu in the Non-Sporting Group in 1992. The average size of this breed should be 13 to 16 inches tall at the withers with a weight of 17 to 23 pounds. Daily exercise is a must with this breed, not only for their physical health, but to burn off energy in general.
